Connecting Books and Residents... Busan Gijang-gun Hosts Reading Culture Event
Busan Gijang-gun will hold a month-long reading culture event from April 1 to 30 in celebration of the ‘59th Library Week.’
Under the theme ‘The Light of Culture Shining Without Boundaries, Library,’ the event will feature exhibitions, performances, meetings, and participatory programs connecting books and residents, aiming to revitalize the community as they recover their daily lives from COVID-19.
First, Jeonggwan Library will host ▲an adult humanities special lecture ‘Doing Humanities through Musicals’ ▲an environmental guardian children’s experience special lecture ‘Making Weather Umbrellas’ ▲a family-friendly ‘Book and Story Magic Show’ performance to engage local residents.
At Gijang Library, events such as ▲a lecture ‘Happy Children’s Literature Together’ with children’s author An Miran ▲a family puppet show ‘The Amazing Red Riding Hood’ ▲a children’s experience special lecture ‘Making Ice Cream from Fairy Tales’ will provide opportunities for local residents to get closer to books.
Additionally, to commemorate ‘World Book Day on April 23,’ established by the UNESCO General Assembly, Jeonggwan Children’s Library and Gijang Library will hold a ‘Used Book Sharing Event.’
This free book sharing event selects books in good condition from discarded books deemed unusable due to pollution, damage, or old publication dates, and donates them free of charge to local residents.
A Gijang-gun official said, “We have prepared various reading culture events to celebrate Library Week and World Book Day,” adding, “We hope this will serve as an opportunity to actively promote the value and necessity of libraries to local residents.”
