POSCO·POSCO E&C Composite Column Construction Method Receives Green Technology Certification
POSCO announced on the 26th that the 'Concrete-Filled Composite Column' (P-Box Column) construction method, jointly developed with POSCO E&C, has received green technology certification from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Green technology certification is a system that certifies technologies minimizing greenhouse gas and pollution emissions. It is finalized through the Green Certification Review Committee, composed of eight ministries including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (overall in charge), following the evaluation agency's review.
The Concrete-Filled Composite Column method is a composite column made by 'cold forming' (forming at room temperature) POSCO's high-performance steel, a technology that approximately doubles compressive strength through the composite effect of concrete and steel.
This technology was designated as Construction New Technology No. 868 in 2019, already recognized for its excellence. POSCO explained that through this green technology certification, it has proven not only technological superiority but also that it is an eco-friendly method capable of reducing carbon emissions.
POSCO also introduced that when applying the Concrete-Filled Composite Column method, it was confirmed that waste volume can be reduced by about 53%, waste disposal costs by about 59%, and carbon dioxide emissions by about 47% compared to reinforced concrete columns.
POSCO E&C applied this method, replacing the reinforced concrete method, to the underground parking sections of four sites including The Sharp Cheonho Central City (approximately 1,900 tons of steel).

Furthermore, they plan to expand its application not only in the construction field but also in other areas such as plants and infrastructure. POSCO emphasized that it will continue to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality in the construction industry, which accounts for more than 20% of greenhouse gas emissions, through ongoing development and expansion of low-carbon construction methods.
