On the 25th, Governor Kim posted on his social media under the title "Creating a Happy Gyeonggi Province for Residents and Their Pets Together," stating, "To prevent the recurrence of incidents like the 'Yangpyeong Junkyard Animal Abuse,' where over 1,200 dogs were starved to death, I have ordered the 'Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police Unit' to crack down." He added, "Just four days after the order, dozens of animal carcasses and dozens of neglected dogs were found at a dog farm in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, and the farm owner is currently under investigation."
He particularly noted, "A grave containing the bones of dozens of animals was discovered on one side of the farm," and added, "The health of the dogs on site was immediately checked, and we are in discussions with Gwangju City to take custody and protect them."
Governor Kim said, "Thanks to the proactive actions of the Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police, further abuse was prevented," and expressed deep gratitude to the residents who reported the situation, urging, "If you witness animal abuse around you, please report it immediately."
He emphasized, "Many dogs bred recklessly for profit end up in miserable conditions or are slaughtered if they are not sold at a young age," and stressed, "While enforcement is important, we must cultivate a culture of adopting pets rather than buying and selling them."
He also promised, "Gyeonggi Province will take the lead by establishing the first 'Animal Welfare Bureau' within a government organization."
