‘Urban Pollution’ Daegu Dyeing Complex 260,000 Pyeong Relocation 추진 … Daegu City Initiates Research Project
Mayor Hong Joon-pyo of Daegu: Promises and Projects of the 8th Elected Term
Daegu City announced a bid on the 29th through the Public Procurement Service's Nara Market for the "Basic Plan Establishment and Feasibility Study for the Relocation of Daegu Dyeing Industrial Complex" aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the local textile and dyeing industry and transforming it into a carbon-neutral advanced industrial complex, with plans to commence the project in May.
The dyeing industrial complex located in Bisan-dong, Seo-gu, Daegu, was established in 1980 and led the Daegu economy during the textile industry's boom. However, after more than 40 years since its establishment, aging facilities have weakened its competitiveness and acted as a factor hindering the development of the western region of Daegu.
Recently, in line with national policies aiming for carbon neutrality, the need for environmentally friendly changes to the cogeneration power plant, a shared energy supply facility within the complex that uses coal as fuel, has been raised. Additionally, with the development of the Seodaegu Station area and the formation of nearby residential and commercial facilities, consensus on relocating the dyeing industrial complex has grown.
Accordingly, Hong Jun-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, adopted the relocation of the dyeing industrial complex to the outskirts as a campaign pledge for the 8th term of the elected mayor.
Before commissioning the current "Basic Plan Establishment and Feasibility Study for the Relocation of Daegu Dyeing Industrial Complex," Daegu City held a meeting with related organizations in July last year, convened a meeting with industrial complex developers and dyeing industry experts in October, and conducted an in-depth survey of tenant companies in December.
This study is expected to cover analysis of the local status and conditions, analysis of the dyeing processing industry status and conditions, analysis of the current status and development plans of Daegu's dyeing industry and industrial complex, review of relocation demand and candidate sites, conceptualization of new industrial complex development, support and funding plans for new industrial complex development, redevelopment plans for the vacated site, and feasibility review of relocating the Daegu Dyeing Industrial Complex.
Currently, the dyeing industrial complex spans 260,000 pyeong (approximately 858,000 square meters), including 80,000 pyeong of common land, and faces issues such as insufficient roads and product storage space. The plan is to select a new industrial complex candidate site of about 500,000 pyeong (approximately 1.65 million square meters) with the capacity to supply 100,000 tons of water per day.
An Jung-gon, Director of the City’s Economic Bureau, stated, "It is true that the current Daegu Dyeing Industrial Complex faces difficulties in securing industrial competitiveness due to aging facilities and lack of space. Through this study, we will strive to establish a basic plan for creating an eco-friendly advanced industrial complex to secure the global competitiveness of the textile industry."
