Kim Jong-wook, Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, Inspects Security in the West Sea Border Area Ahead of the Flower Crab Spawning Season
Kim Jong-wook, Commissioner of the Korea Coast Guard, visited Yeonpyeongdo, the northernmost island in the West Sea, on the 23rd to inspect the security situation.
Ahead of the blue crab peak season (April to June), Commissioner Kim used patrol ship 526 in the morning to patrol the Yeonpyeong fishing grounds to check the safety of fishermen.
He also visited the Yeonpyeongdo police station to encourage the staff and presented commendations and certificates of appreciation to Yeonpyeongdo Navy and Marine Corps personnel who contributed to maritime safety, as well as to island residents.
In the afternoon, he boarded a special rapid response boat dedicated to cracking down on illegal fishing foreign vessels and patrolled the waters near the Northern Limit Line (NLL) west of Yeonpyeongdo to directly monitor the fishing activities of foreign vessels.
Commissioner Kim urged the on-site officers, saying, "Please make efforts to ensure that our fishermen can safely engage in their livelihoods during the blue crab peak season," and added, "Fulfill your duties as a Coast Guard that is strong on the ground and faithful to the basics."
