According to the county on the 23rd, Tando in Mangu-myeon is the only inhabited island in Muan-gun, with 30 households and 47 residents. Due to the island village's characteristics, it has been difficult to supply tap water from the mainland, so all residents have relied on groundwater (private wells) for their daily lives.
However, recently, due to drought-induced depletion and contamination of drinking water sources, residents have been purchasing water for consumption.
To address this issue and improve the living conditions of island residents, the county has been promoting a drinking water supply project since 2021 with a total project cost of 8 billion KRW (5.6 billion KRW national funds, 720 million KRW provincial funds, and 1.68 billion KRW county funds), and it is expected to be fully supplied by September next year.
County Governor Kim San stated, “We will strive to achieve a 100% tap water supply rate in Muan-gun by providing safe and clean tap water to Tando residents who are experiencing a shortage of domestic water due to groundwater scarcity.” He added, “In the event of emergencies such as drought areas and water outages, we will provide quick and efficient on-site support to alleviate the inconvenience of residents facing additional difficulties in securing domestic water.”
