Decided to Focus on Quarantine Negotiations for Export-Promising Items Such as Hanwoo and Dangam
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Selects Key Items for 2023 Agricultural and Livestock Export Quarantine Negotiations
The government has decided to focus on quarantine negotiations with importing countries for the export of sweet persimmons and Korean beef.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 23rd that it has selected key items for export quarantine negotiations in 2023 through the 'Committee for Selecting Key Items for Export Quarantine Negotiations of Agricultural and Livestock Products.'
At this meeting, the results of a demand survey on desired export items conducted with exporters and producer organizations since the end of last year, the overseas market analysis by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), and domestic production and quarantine conditions were gradually reviewed to select five agricultural products (8 countries) and seven livestock products (9 countries) as key items for focused promotion.
Among agricultural products, items with superior quality and price competitiveness in overseas markets (Korean melons for Australia, sweet persimmons for China) and citrus fruits in the premium citrus markets of the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam (such as Hallabong, Redhyang, Cheonhyehyang) were selected. Additionally, in the Latin American market, grapes and seeds with high export potential and excellent storability, facilitating long-distance freshness maintenance, were chosen. For sweet persimmons already exported to Australia, negotiations to ease quarantine requirements will also be pursued to expand exports.
In livestock products, plans are underway to develop new markets for Korean beef in China, the United States, Singapore, and the European Union (EU). Heat-treated pork and egg products, which have less impact in case of domestic livestock disease outbreaks and have high overseas demand, were also selected as key items. Furthermore, for pet food, whose market size is steadily growing domestically and internationally, approaches will be made considering market demand by country.
