Hampyeong-gun Hosts Hampyeongcheonji Eel Korean Course Cooking Class
Promoting Food Tourism Revitalization Through New Menu Development
Hampyeong-gun held the ‘Hampyeongcheonji Eel Korean Set Menu Cooking Workshop’ to revitalize dining tourism.
According to the county on the 22nd, the ‘Hampyeongcheonji Eel Korean Set Menu Cooking Workshop’ was held over two days on the 20th and 21st.
This workshop was promoted as part of the ‘Hampyeong Specialty Food Dining Tourism Premium Project,’ a pledge of the 8th-term county governor, and was prepared to develop and distribute new menus using eel, a representative local seafood, to promote the revitalization of dining tourism in Hampyeong.
Two local eel specialty restaurants, Hanokjeong (Sonbul-myeon) and Wolya88 Eel (Wolya-myeon), participated in this workshop.
Hanokjeong introduced ‘Eel Soup,’ which brings out the original taste and umami of the ingredients by adding eel and vegetables to a rich broth brewed directly, as well as various sauces to enhance the flavor of grilled eel.
Wolya88 Eel developed distinctive menus such as ‘Eel Mulhoe’ using homemade sauces and ‘Mapaeel,’ which adds fried eel to Chinese-style Mapo Tofu.
The county plans to establish standardized cooking methods through one-on-one customized consulting with culinary experts and optimize them for in-store sales through on-site training consulting, presenting them newly to consumers.

A health center official said, “Through the cooking workshop, we will diversify Hampyeongcheonji eel dishes to captivate tourists’ tastes,” adding, “We will also do our best to develop new menus using local specialties such as Hampyeong Hanwoo as well as eel in the future.”
