Ulsan Office of Education to Nurture Students with Special Needs as Cultural and Artistic Professionals
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education is expanding customized programs to nurture special education students with talents in the cultural and artistic fields into professional artists.
The number of commissioned institutions operating specialized professional training programs has increased from three last year to four this year.
The specialized professional training program aims to discover talents in the cultural and artistic fields and nurture special education students in middle and high school courses into professional artists by operating a curriculum focused on culture and arts.
Last year, the program was commissioned to three specialized institutions in pottery, dance, and music, where 27 students obtained professional certifications related to pottery or participated in national competitions and local cultural festival performances. Various concerts and exhibitions were also held, and some students found employment.
This year, four institutions were selected through a public contest for various fields including pottery, crafts, dance, music, and Gugak (traditional Korean music). The selected institutions are Dadareum Art & Design, International Disabled Culture Exchange Ulsan Association, Music Palette, and Ulsan Dance Forum.
These institutions plan to operate vocational education in the cultural and artistic fields, one-on-one cultural and artistic education, individually customized job linkage support, and professional artist training, education, and practical training.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to support the commissioned institutions to operate in connection with related organizations in the Ulsan area such as the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, Developmental Disability Training Center, and Welfare Center for the Disabled.
