Fire Agency Announces 13.8 to 1 Competition Rate for This Year's Firefighter Recruitment Exam
Written Exam on the 18th in 17 Cities and Provinces
The National Fire Agency announced on the 16th that a total of 21,575 applicants applied for 1,560 positions in the 2023 Firefighter Recruitment Examination, which was open for four days starting from the 13th of last month, resulting in an average competition rate of 13.8:1.
By recruitment category, the open competitive recruitment exam had 15,483 applicants for 730 positions, recording a competition rate of 21.2:1, while the experienced competitive recruitment exam had 6,092 applicants for 830 positions, resulting in a competition rate of 7.3:1.
The region with the highest competition rate in the open competitive recruitment exam was Ulsan, with 182 applicants for 3 positions, recording a rate of 60.7:1. In the experienced competitive recruitment exam, the military firefighter experienced recruitment category showed the highest competition rate with 61 applicants for 3 positions, resulting in a rate of 20.3:1.
The average age of applicants was 27 years old, with 76.1% in their 20s or younger, 23.3% in their 30s, and 0.6% in their 40s. The average ages for the open and experienced competitive recruitment exams were 27 and 28 years old, respectively, with the youngest applicants being 17 and 18 years old, and the oldest applicant being 43 years old.
The written exam is scheduled to be held simultaneously on the 18th at 51 test centers across 17 cities and provinces nationwide. From 2 PM on April 10, there will be a period for score confirmation and objections, followed by the announcement of written exam passers on April 14.

The physical fitness test will be conducted over a maximum of two weeks according to the schedule set by each city and province from April 17 to May 7. Notably, this year’s interview exam, organized by the National Fire Agency, will be held from May 23 to 26, with the final successful candidates announced on July 7.
