Ssangyong Motor Confirms Name of Electrified Model U100 as 'Torres EVX'
SsangYong Motor has finalized the name of the electrified model of its sports utility vehicle (SUV) Torres, the U100, and revealed real car images and videos on the 16th.
SsangYong Motor confirmed the name as "Torres EVX," which had been developed under the project name "U100." Ahead of its launch, the company unveiled interior and exterior images and began full-scale promotion of the new vehicle. It announced that the vehicle will be first showcased at the "2023 Seoul Mobility Show" held at KINTEX in Goyang, starting with the press day on the 30th.
A SsangYong Motor official explained, "The name Torres EVX combines the strong and stylish image of Torres, which pursues an authentic SUV, with 'EV' representing electric vehicles and 'X' from eXtreme, symbolizing the SUV's inherent free lifestyle. The branding embodies the spirit of adventure and challenge that transcends the limits of electric vehicles."
Along with the branding goals embedded in the name, SsangYong Motor released images showcasing the interior and exterior design of the Torres EVX. Based on SsangYong’s design vision and philosophy, the design incorporates a futuristic electrified model style, applying a horizontal dot-style surface light LED daytime running light (DRL) that spans the front. This emphasizes a distinctive identity unique to electric vehicles.
Additionally, the towing cover, symbolizing outdoor activity and the wild image of an off-roader, is designed to represent the "Ri" pattern, which symbolizes the sun and fire from the Taegeukgi’s four trigrams: Geon, Gon, Gam, and Ri. The Torres EVX stands as the representative model of Korea’s authentic electric SUV, symbolically showcasing SsangYong Motor as a Korean automobile company.
The interior of the Torres EVX follows the Torres concept with a slim and wide ergonomic design, allowing the driver to experience a differentiated UX (user experience). The panoramic display on the front, connecting the digital cluster and navigation, enhances visibility while providing various information.
The Torres EVX is Korea’s first and only mid-size authentic electric SUV, offering superior space utilization compared to competing electrified models. It is not only convenient for leisure activities such as camping and car camping but also features a high ground clearance, enabling new and diverse experiences including off-road performance not previously experienced in existing electrified models.
Along with this, SsangYong Motor will participate in the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show for the first time in four years since 2019, presenting its vision as a mobility company. It plans to provide visitors with a special and enjoyable experience.
