Gyeonggi-do Creates 'Flood Prevention and Ecological Environment' in 72 Rivers
124.3 Billion KRW Invested in Local Stream Maintenance Project
To ensure safety from floods and improve river environments, Gyeonggi Province plans to reinforce embankments, install bridges, and create ecological environments in 72 rivers this year.
On the 16th, Gyeonggi Province announced, "We will invest a total of 124.3 billion KRW of provincial funds this year to maintain 28 rivers under construction covering 67.8 km, 18 rivers under compensation covering 59.8 km, and 26 rivers under design covering 90.7 km within the province."
Among the 28 rivers under construction, 7 sites including Anseong Yulgokcheon are scheduled to be completed within the year. The plan includes reinforcing embankments, maintaining river facilities, installing bridges, creating ecological environments, and securing waterfront spaces such as walking trails.
In particular, the main construction phases of the project sites will be carried out before the rainy season to prevent flood damage. For rivers under compensation or design, residents' briefings will be held to reflect their opinions.
According to the "Gyeonggi Province Local River Comprehensive Maintenance Plan (2021?2030)," the maintenance approach will shift from focusing solely on river width expansion and embankment reinforcement to a more comprehensive consideration of water quality, aesthetics, ecology, and other factors. Sixty rivers selected based on these criteria will be maintained in stages each year.
