'I Am God' Agadongsan Episode Broadcast Ban Injunction Hearing on the 24th
A provisional injunction hearing to decide whether to maintain the screening of content related to the religious group 'Agadongsan,' featured in the Netflix documentary 'I Am God,' will be held on the 24th.
According to the legal community on the 14th, the Seoul Central District Court Civil Division 50 (Chief Presiding Judge Park Beom-seok) is scheduled to conduct a hearing at 10:30 a.m. on the 24th regarding the provisional injunction case filed by Agadongsan and its leader Kim Gi-soon against Netflix, PD Jo Seong-hyun, and MBC to ban the broadcast.
'I Am God,' produced with the participation of MBC, is an eight-episode documentary covering four individuals who call themselves gods.
Agadongsan, introduced in episodes 5 and 6, filed a provisional injunction on the 8th requesting the court to ban the broadcast. The group demanded the court prohibit the airing of content that depicts Agadongsan as a 'pseudo-religious cult' on broadcast programs or the internet. They also applied to ban the production and distribution of publications, including books. They requested the court to order Netflix, PD Jo, and MBC to pay a daily penalty of 10 million KRW if they fail to comply.
The group claims that the broadcast contains only baseless and one-sided allegations from some former members of Agadongsan and that most of the content is false.
In 2001, Agadongsan also filed a provisional injunction to ban SBS's 'Unanswered Questions - Agadongsan, Five Years Later.' The court accepted the injunction at that time, and SBS urgently replaced the scheduled broadcast with a special documentary titled 'Agadongsan, Five Years Later.'
