ENPlus Develops Next-Generation Electrode Manufacturing Technology... "Significant Reduction in Energy Consumption"
Participation in 'InterBattery 2023'
LFP Pouch Cells and Solid Electrolytes for All-Solid-State Batteries
ENPLUS announced on the 13th that it will participate in 'InterBattery 2023,' the largest domestic battery exhibition, held from the 15th to the 17th at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul. ENPLUS will showcase various self-developed secondary battery materials and battery finished products, along with the recently developed 'Dry Electrode' using a dry process.
The dry electrode is a next-generation electrode manufacturing technology attracting attention from electric vehicle manufacturers such as Tesla and secondary battery manufacturers. In the secondary battery manufacturing process, the drying step of the electrode accounts for the largest area and energy consumption, making it a factor that increases investment costs in secondary battery facilities.
The conventional electrode manufacturing method involves mixing cathode active materials with NMP (solvent) and binder (adhesive) to create a liquid slurry, which is then coated onto metal foils such as aluminum and dried. The drying process requires a length of 50 to 100 meters, resulting in enormous space and energy requirements.
The dry process mixes cathode active materials and binder in a dry state and coats them onto metal foils, eliminating the need for drying. This reduces the occupied area and energy consumption to about one-tenth, significantly lowering facility investment and energy costs. Additionally, since emissions such as carbon dioxide are reduced during manufacturing, it is excellent from an ESG perspective.
At InterBattery 2023 this year, ENPLUS will unveil LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) pouch cells and solid electrolytes for all-solid-state batteries. The company expects significant attention as many key industry stakeholders in the battery sector will participate.
An ENPLUS representative stated, "We plan to showcase various products, including our flagship secondary battery thermal management materials, recycled active materials, electrodes, and CNT conductive additives at the InterBattery event," adding, "The recently developed dry electrode is expected to receive the most attention."
