Yeongam-gun, Prevention of Spring Seasonal Infectious Disease Spread
Warning for Waterborne and Foodborne Infectious Diseases... Cook Food Thoroughly Before Eating
Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, urged residents to strictly follow infection prevention guidelines to prevent the spread of infectious diseases that commonly occur in spring due to increased outdoor activities and group living.
According to the county on the 13th, with the easing of quarantine rules such as the adjustment of indoor mask-wearing mandates and the increase in group activities at daycare centers and academies, respiratory infectious diseases like chickenpox and mumps are expected to rise.
In particular, chickenpox and mumps, which are transmitted through respiratory secretions, occur more frequently and are highly contagious among those aged 15 and under who engage in group living. To prevent infection, proper handwashing, practicing cough etiquette, and regular indoor ventilation should be maintained.
Additionally, with the milder weather and the revitalization of local festivals that had been stagnant due to COVID-19, the number of visitors to recreational areas is increasing, requiring special attention to waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases.
“Waterborne and foodborne infectious diseases” are illnesses transmitted through the consumption of contaminated water or food, mainly causing gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. To prevent these, food should be thoroughly cooked, water must be boiled before drinking, and individuals experiencing symptoms like diarrhea or vomiting or those with hand wounds should avoid preparing food.
