'I Am God' PD: "There Are JMS Followers Even Inside MBC"
Revealed at Producer Jo Seong-hyun's Press Conference
"JMS Followers Positioned Throughout Society"
"I heard there are (followers) even inside MBC."
Jo Seong-hyun, the PD of the Netflix original documentary dealing with cult religions, I Am a God: People Betrayed by God (I Am a God), revealed that there are JMS (Christian Gospel Mission) followers throughout society.
On the 10th, a press conference for the Netflix documentary I Am a God: People Betrayed by God (hereafter 'I Am a God') was held at Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul. At this event, PD Jo Seong-hyun addressed the controversy over sensationalism that had arisen and shared various stories he experienced while investigating cult religions.
I Am a God was released on the 3rd and received praise for deeply examining the harms of cult religions. At the same time, it faced significant criticism for being provocative by exposing female nudity and explicit conversations in full.
In response, PD Jo Seong-hyun said, "It is natural to have concerns about sensationalism," but added, "This is not a movie or entertainment; it is the actual harm someone suffered and the truth. Let me reframe the question. Many media and broadcasts have covered this issue before, so why does it continue to exist and repeat?"
He continued, "Is there anyone who watches this video and thinks it is sexually appealing? It is a horrifying matter, and people with ordinary sensibilities would feel devastated. From the producer’s perspective, it was necessary to include it (to show there was no manipulation). Even if viewers drop off, I thought it had to be placed."
He further explained, "In fact, during the production process, rumors spread, and even people on our team and Netflix doubted it. We repeatedly asked to check if such people existed, but I think they can exist anytime."
PD Jo said, "During the investigation, I was surprised that there are many cult religion followers throughout society, including among those called the elite," and added, "We must be cautious so that indiscriminate witch hunts do not occur. Living in a country where freedom of religion is guaranteed by the constitution, it cannot be said that believing in a religion itself is wrong."
The Netflix documentary "I Am God," which deals with the ugly sexual crime allegations against Jeong Myeong-seok (78), the president of the Christian Gospel Mission (JMS), was recently released, causing ongoing repercussions.

Earlier, Kim Do-hyung, a professor at Dankook University and a participant in I Am a God, said on KBS's The Live that there are JMS followers even at KBS. Subsequently, KBS stated, "Regarding the JMS protection allegations raised by Professor Kim Do-hyung of Dankook University on The Live, KBS has immediately launched a fact-finding investigation and plans to take appropriate measures based on the results."
The Netflix original documentary I Am a God: People Betrayed by God (hereafter 'I Am a God') is an eight-episode Netflix documentary series composed of episodes such as 'JMS, Brides of God,' 'Odaeyang, 32 Corpses and God,' 'Agadongsan, Searching for Paradise,' and 'The Man Who Became God of All Nations.' It depicts victims who believed humans were gods and the cruel acts of various figures who called themselves gods.
