‘Dongbaek Sanghoe,’ which supports the promotion and sales of excellent small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) products in the Busan area, is making a fresh start at Shinsegae Department Store Centum City Branch.
On the 9th at 11:20 a.m., Busan City will hold the opening ceremony of the SME excellent product shopping mall ‘Dongbaek Sanghoe’ at Shinsegae Department Store Centum City Branch. About 30 people, including Mayor Park Hyung-jun, Shinsegae CEO Son Young-sik, and representatives of tenant SMEs, will attend the ceremony.
‘Dongbaek Sanghoe,’ an offline store for local SME products, had been operating at Busan Station Eurasia Platform until June last year. However, as the Eurasia Platform was reorganized mainly as a startup space, a new location was sought. During this process, Shinsegae, which was looking for ways to expand Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management, found common ground with the city. After signing a business agreement between Busan City and Shinsegae in September last year, efforts were accelerated, and from March this year, Dongbaek Sanghoe has newly settled in Shinsegae Department Store Centum City Branch. The space is provided free of charge by Shinsegae.
Passing through the subway connecting passage and entering the department store entrance, Dongbaek Sanghoe (located on Basement Level 2 of Centum City Branch) is right in front, selling about 160 products that vividly represent Busan’s characteristics, including gimbugak (seaweed snack), honey, drip coffee, traditional liquor, cosmetics, and postcards.
The city has an ambitious goal this year to ‘discover star companies’ through Dongbaek Sanghoe’s entry into a large-scale distribution store.
By providing a shopping-friendly space like a department store to SMEs that have competitiveness but have not found proper sales channels, the aim is to raise awareness of their products and companies and create exemplary cases that serve as opportunities to enter broader markets.
To this end, the city plans to continuously create opportunities for consumers to become familiar with excellent local products through promotional events linked not only to the department store’s own events but also to Busan Brand Festa and Korea Sale Festa, in cooperation with the Busan Economic Promotion Agency, which is in charge of overall operation of the Dongbaek Sanghoe store together with Shinsegae.
In particular, along with this opening ceremony, a sensational promotional event offering up to 20% discounts on all Dongbaek Sanghoe products and a social networking service (SNS) event for store visits and product purchase certification will be prepared to widely publicize Dongbaek Sanghoe’s debut to citizens at Shinsegae Department Store.
Online, the plan is to actively promote the expansion of tenant companies and the Dongbaek Sanghoe brand by linking with ‘Sodam Square,’ an institution supporting planned exhibitions using open market channels such as WEMAKEPRICE and TMON, and real-time corporate communication sales (live commerce).

Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “I hope this innovative case, where local SMEs and large corporations grow together and pioneer the region’s future, will expand further,” and added, “Dongbaek Sanghoe is not just a single offline store but a space of hope and possibility for capable SMEs. We will actively support this in cooperation with Shinsegae.”
