'International Women's Day' originated in 1908 when female workers in the United States demanded improved working conditions and voting rights, calling for 'bread (women's right to survival) and roses (voting rights).'
The event was held to remember the cries of that day, to collectively participate in realizing a gender-equal society, and as part of a campaign to support flower farmers struggling due to a sharp decline in flower consumption amid the economic downturn.
Superintendent Ko Gwang-jin said, "International Women's Day is a day when men and women commemorate and act together to eliminate unfair discrimination, guarantee the rights of the vulnerable, and realize a democracy where everyone is equal. I hope we create a culture of respecting and valuing each other."
