Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jong-man) is making an all-out effort to overcome the drought crisis.

The county is facing an emergency situation where water shortage is worsening, with the reservoir rate of the Juam Dam, a wide-area water source, reaching about 19.5%, and the local water source reservoir rate at 39.0%, making it necessary to consider water supply restrictions. Therefore, practicing water-saving in daily life is urgently needed.
On this day, the campaign appealed for active participation from residents by promoting the installation of PET bottles in toilet tanks, a key water-saving measure.
In addition, employees from the Water and Sewage Business Office and Yeonggwang-eup Office visited public restrooms and large-scale water users on site to install PET bottles in toilet tanks and urged residents to actively practice water saving.
By installing PET bottles in toilet tanks, about 1 to 1.3 liters of tap water consumed per flush can be saved.
If at least 100,000 PET bottle toilet tanks are installed throughout the county, about 1,000 tons of water can be saved daily (equivalent to the annual reservoir volume of one reservoir), resulting in significant economic effects such as reducing water purification costs (about 800 million won annually) and lowering water bills for users.
A county official said, "The drought continues and water is limited, so overcoming the water crisis is impossible without the participation and efforts of residents. The campaign to install PET bottles in toilet tanks will continue even if the reservoir volume of the water source reaches 100%, and we ask for the active participation of all residents."
