The Resident of Sejong City Who Raised the Rising Sun Flag Was a 'Korean Pastor'
Controversy Over Resident Raising Rising Sun Flag on March 1st
Colonial Perspective Revealed Through Sermon Video
"Thanks to the Empire of Japan, Modernization Occurred"
The identity of the Sejong City resident who hung the Rising Sun flag on March 1st Independence Movement Day has been revealed.
He, who said, "I am Japanese, so I hung the Japanese flag, and I dislike Korea," was actually a Korean pastor.
According to a JTBC report on the 6th, Mr. A, who caused controversy by hanging the Rising Sun flag instead of the Taegeukgi on the balcony of an apartment in Hansol-dong, Sejong City on the 1st, was found to be serving as a pastor at a church.
In a sermon video released on a church's YouTube channel the day before, Mr. A opened by saying, "Someone said they hung the Rising Sun flag to show support for the Korea-Japan friendship," and expressed his thoughts on the 'Rising Sun flag controversy' as if it were not his own action.

He pointed out that "less than 1% of houses hung the Taegeukgi on March 1st. If the Rising Sun flag was hung among the Taegeukgi flags, it would have blended in," blaming the residents who did not hang the Taegeukgi instead.
He also referred to the Japanese colonial period as the "Empire of Japan era," stating, "The annexation treaty was made between Mr. Lee Wan-yong and Governor-General Terauchi, marking the era of the Empire of Japan."
Furthermore, he openly revealed the colonialist perspective advocated by Japanese right-wing historians by saying, "Because of Japan, we were able to learn civilization and receive modern education."
The YouTube channel where this video was uploaded includes the name of the church and the denomination to which the church is presumed to belong. However, it has not been confirmed whether this church actually exists or which denomination it belongs to.
Meanwhile, Mr. A recently requested the police to investigate residents who visited his home to protest. It is reported that he filed a complaint through the National Petition System asking for the punishment of those who came to his house to protest.
Earlier, on March 1st, when members of the Korean Liberation Association visited the household and knocked on the door to protest, a woman inside responded, "You are intruders, so why are your voices so loud?" and said, "Would you do this even if the North Korean flag was hung? I will report you as spies."
