BMW, Number One Imported Car for Two Consecutive Months... Bestselling Car 'BMW 520'
BMW surpassed Mercedes-Benz to secure the top spot in imported car market share for two consecutive months. BMW, led by its flagship model BMW 520, exceeded a cumulative market share of 32% this year. The mid-size sedan BMW 520 was the best-selling car in February.
According to data from the Korea Imported Automobile Association on the 6th, BMW sold 6,381 units in February, a 12.8% increase compared to the same month last year. Mercedes-Benz, ranked second, sold 5,519 units, down 7.6% from the previous year. Although Mercedes-Benz significantly increased sales compared to January (2,900 units), it was not enough to catch up. The monthly sales gap between BMW and Mercedes-Benz narrowed to 862 units in February.
The third place was Audi (2,200 units), followed by Lexus (1,344 units) in fourth, and Porsche (1,123 units) in fifth. Volvo, which was in fourth place until January, dropped to sixth, while Lexus, previously outside the top five, rose to fourth place.
The best-selling imported car in February was the BMW 520, with 1,310 units sold. Next were the Lexus ES300h (967 units) and the Mercedes-Benz E 350 4MATIC (852 units).
By fuel type, gasoline vehicles accounted for more than half of the total with 10,955 units sold. Hybrid vehicles followed with 6,814 units, making up over 30% of total sales. Electric vehicles more than doubled compared to the same month last year, with 1,272 units sold.

Looking at the overall imported car market, the number of new registrations for imported passenger cars in February was 21,622 units. This represents an 11.1% increase compared to the same month last year and a 33% increase compared to the previous month.
