"Silent Majority's Rebellion" vs "Kim Gi-hyun's Single-Party Loyalty" in the Opposition Party's Previous Election Turnout
34.72% Voter Turnout on First Day Sets Record High
Ahn Cheol-soo and Chun Ha-ram Described as 'Rebels'
Kim Ki-hyun: "Labeled as Party Member Rebels"
On the first day of voting for the People Power Party's March 8 leadership election, the turnout rate reached a record high of 34.72%, prompting differing analyses from the party's leadership candidates.
Candidate Ahn Cheol-soo wrote on Facebook on the 5th, "A turnout revolt, the grassroots party members are turning toward Ahn Cheol-soo," adding, "The desire for innovation expressed by party members on the first day is astonishing. There is a strong will among party members to firmly judge the abnormalities and unfairness that occurred during the leadership election process and to elect a party leader who will surely win next year's general election."
The previous day, candidate Chun Ha-ram also used the term "revolt." Through Facebook, Chun said, "It's amazing. A revolt of the silent majority," and added, "Even arithmetically, there is no group that can 'mobilize' this level of voting. It is truly a typhoon of public sentiment."

Candidate Ahn wrote, "(I) appealed to party members to judge the old-fashioned divisiveness and smear campaigns and to participate in the party's reform." Candidate Chun said, "Party members, please prove the simple truth that 'cowards will be judged.' Send a stern warning."
Candidate Kim Ki-hyun posted a message seemingly targeting the two candidates. On the same day, Kim wrote on Facebook, "Some candidates are disparaging responsible People Power Party members as if they were rebels by calling it a 'revolt of the silent majority,' and candidates who call themselves reform forces are sending texts impersonating party branches and conducting old-fashioned election campaigns. However, the choice of the 840,000 responsible party members who love the People Power Party is 'unwavering party loyalty' Kim Ki-hyun."
He also analyzed, "The driving force behind the record-high turnout on the first day of voting is the strong will of party members for our party to end internal strife, unite based on stable leadership, and ensure the success of the Yoon Seok-youl administration."
