Recipients Save Living Expenses, Children Create Ramen Trees for Donation
Funds Used for Welfare Services Including Tuition Waivers for Low-Income Youth and Quarantine Services
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that a total of 2.56 billion KRW was raised during the ‘2023 Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ campaign held over three months from November last year, achieving 120% of the target amount.
Notably, the campaign drew attention with stories of basic livelihood security recipients and children who, despite difficult circumstances, practiced small but warm acts of sharing.
A basic livelihood security recipient in Garakbon-dong donated 430,000 KRW saved from living expenses along with food items such as sweet potatoes and blankets worth about 380,000 KRW, providing help to 73 local households in crisis. An anonymous resident donated 2 million KRW in cash to share the blessing of their grandchild’s birth, and at a taekwondo academy in Munjeong-dong, children created a ramen tree with 1,007 packets of ramen collected from their homes to donate to neighbors in need.
Donations from local companies added warmth to the campaign. The Descente Sports Foundation sponsored sportswear for low-income children, Milagro Interwork provided winter hats to help seniors stay healthy during winter, the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives donated anchovy sauce to the Songpa Food Market, and cosmetics specialist Olgahue supported with skin care products and creams.
Through participation from all walks of life, the total amount raised reached 1.05 billion KRW in cash and 1.5 billion KRW in goods.
The donated goods were first distributed last winter to about 17,000 low-income households and 419 social welfare facilities in the district, while the cash donations will be used throughout this year for welfare services such as tuition waivers for low-income youth and quarantine services.
Meanwhile, in 2022, the district used cash donations to promptly support 149 households affected by flooding in August last year by replacing wallpaper and flooring.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “Despite crises such as the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn, many residents participated in this ‘Warm Winter Campaign’ to achieve a hope temperature of 120℃. We are grateful for the sharing and will carefully ensure that the donations are used where needed so that warm hearts are evenly spread without anyone being left out.”
Gwangjin-gu Raises 1.63 Billion KRW for Warm Winter... Exceeds Target
1.63 Billion KRW Raised in Cash and Goods, 117% of Target Achieved
Fundraising Activities Through ‘One-Day Tea Houses’ and ‘Donation Days’ in Each Dong from November Last Year to February This Year
Funds to Support 200 Households, Emergency Relief, and Low-Income Residents
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) raised approximately 1.63 billion KRW through the ‘2023 Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ project, exceeding the original target by 117%.
The ‘Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ is a representative fundraising project jointly promoted by the district and the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest. The donated cash and goods are used to help neighbors in need.
The district actively conducted fundraising activities for three months starting last November. Each of the 15 dongs operated ‘One-Day Tea Houses’ and ‘Donation Days’ to provide enjoyable opportunities for local residents to donate, and consistent promotion was carried out through the district website and newsletters.
Despite difficult economic conditions, donors from all sectors including individuals, groups, and companies united to practice warm sharing. Among them were many anonymous donors and children who carefully collected pocket money to donate.
As a result, 659.74 million KRW in cash and 944.24 million KRW in goods were raised, securing a total of about 1.63 billion KRW. This exceeded the original target of 1.36 billion KRW by 243 million KRW.
The raised funds will be used for welfare projects supporting vulnerable groups such as the ‘200 Household Care Project,’ Gwangjin-gu emergency relief, and the ‘Hope Double Youth Account.’ Additionally, holiday support funds and scholarships will be provided to low-income residents.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I sincerely thank everyone who personally practiced walking alongside the vulnerable with warm hearts thinking of their neighbors. We will use the funds meaningfully for neighbors in need and wholeheartedly repay the precious sharing.”
Dongjak-gu ‘Warm Winter’ Campaign Achieves 1.3 Billion KRW in Fundraising

Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced that it exceeded its target of 1.3 billion KRW through the ‘2023 Hope Ondol Warm Winter’ campaign held over three months from last November.
Despite difficult circumstances such as high interest rates, high prices, and rising fuel costs, a total of 610 million KRW in cash and 690 million KRW in goods were raised, along with over 1,200 donation participations.
The fundraising was conducted in connection with the Dongjak Welfare Foundation and the Seoul Social Welfare Community Chest, with participation from various sectors including local private companies, professional associations, and individual sponsors using diverse methods to help neighbors in need.
From the start of fundraising, goods and cash donations such as rice, kimchi, rice cakes, and eggs for neighbors in need were collected from all sectors.
Additionally, one company awarded 4.5 million KRW in scholarships to 15 youths facing difficulties through a local children’s center, and 35 million KRW collected in piggy banks by children at 146 daycare centers was donated, spreading warm sharing news.
The district plans to distribute the collected goods to low-income households and marginalized families, and use the cash donations throughout the year to support residents and social welfare facilities in need.
