55 Stores Burned in Fire at Incheon Hyundai Market... On-Site Investigation Underway
Fire authorities and police have begun a joint on-site investigation to determine the cause of a fire that burned 55 stores in Incheon Hyundai Market.
The Incheon Fire Headquarters conducted a joint investigation with the police starting at 9:30 a.m. on the 5th around the Hyundai Market area in Songnim-dong, Dong-gu, Incheon. About 10 personnel, including the Incheon Fire Headquarters fire investigation team and forensic investigators from the Incheon Police Agency's scientific investigation unit, were deployed for the joint investigation. The team inspected the ashes to check for any flammable or combustible materials that could be presumed as the cause of the fire while photographing various parts of the scene with cameras.
After the fire, some market merchants suggested the possibility that someone intentionally set the fire. A police official stated, "At this point, we cannot even estimate the exact location where the fire started," adding, "We will determine the investigation targets after reviewing the investigation results."
Incheon City also held a situation assessment meeting regarding the Hyundai Market fire on the morning of the same day, presided over by Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok. After the meeting, Mayor Yoo plans to visit the fire site together with Han Chang-seop, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
