Sim Deok-seop, Gochang County Governor, "Accelerating Improvement of Fishermen's Working Conditions and Attraction of Visitors"

Shim Deok-seop, the governor of Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, visited the Saemangeum New Deal 300 project sites and stated, “We will improve the old port environment to increase fishermen's satisfaction and attract tourists.”

According to the county on the 2nd, Governor Shim visited two Saemangeum New Deal 300 project sites (Sangha Gori Port and Haeri Dongho Port) on the 28th of last month.

The Saemangeum New Deal 300 project selects 300 fishing ports and fishing villages nationwide to promote modernization of fishing port facilities and support specialized projects.

Currently, five Saemangeum New Deal 300 projects are underway in Gochang.

At ‘Sangha-myeon Gori Port,’ 10 billion KRW is being invested to renovate the aging port, and a storage warehouse and eco-friendly parking lot will be constructed.

Governor Shim said, “The Gori Port village has maintained the reputation of the Chilsan Sea at the edge of Gochang-gun and has worked hard in early fishing and tough fishing activities. We will now actively support them so they can work in a more comfortable environment.”

At ‘Haeri-myeon Dongho Port,’ a visitor center and exhibition hall will be built to modernize the port and revitalize tourism.

Currently, the project is 80% complete and aims for completion in the second half of this year.

Governor Shim said, “With a large-scale complex resort nearby, Dongho Port is emerging as a marine tourism hub of Gochang-gun. I urge you to take the lead in developing buildings that harmonize with the village landscape and specialized content.”

He added, “We will revitalize fishing village tourism to create a joyful fishing village for fishermen and local residents, an attractive fishing village that tourists visit, and a precious fishing village that discovers the value of ordinariness, thereby driving innovative growth in fishing villages.”
