Seoul City Opens 'Village Information Center' in Seochon Hanok Village
Spaces and Programs for the Popularization and Revitalization of Hanok
Seoul City announced on the 2nd that it will begin operating spaces and programs to popularize and revitalize Hanok in earnest following the announcement of the 'Hanok 4.0 Re-creation Plan' last month. A 'Village Information Center' will be established in Seochon Hanok Village, and a multipurpose rental facility will be added to the public Hanok in Bukchon Hanok Village.
Seoul City stated that it will open 'Seochon Fermented,' an information center in Nuha-dong, Jongno-gu, and start full-scale operations from March. In addition, the multipurpose rental facility 'Public Hanok Playground' in Bukchon, where various activities (small meetings, conferences, events, etc.) can be held in Hanok, will also be operated on a trial basis.
First, 'Seochon Fermented,' which means 'a space where Hanok and Hanok culture mature,' will be operated as a village information and local cultural exchange space for domestic and foreign tourists and residents by leveraging the unique regional characteristics of Seochon and the geographical advantage of being located on the commercial street of Pilundero.
The village information center 'Seochon Fermented' consists of an information center providing sightseeing and entertainment along with a caf? and exhibition space, and it will also serve as a concierge connecting shops·experience centers·accommodations within Seochon.
In particular, considering that Seochon has lacked convenience facilities and exchange places for the local community due to its visitor-oriented commercial district and aging facilities, it is planned to be used as a public resting place and a communication space to revitalize the Seochon community.
Furthermore, the city will open the special space 'Public Hanok Playground,' where citizens can experience the daily life of Bukchon, free of charge. Any Seoul citizen can rent it for various purposes such as small meetings, conferences, and events, available from Tuesday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., with a maximum usage of 3 hours per day.
Citizens wishing to rent the public Hanok can refer to the 'Rental Regulations' posted on the Seoul Hanok Portal notice board, fill out the application form (template), and submit it via email.

The village information center will serve as the starting point for Seochon travel and a 'community-type public Hanok' that grows together with residents, connecting commercial·and cultural infrastructure to drive local economic revitalization," adding, "We will continue to expand the use of 34 public Hanok sites in Seoul and implement an open Hanok policy for both citizens and residents."
