China Companies Included in Sanctions Amid Russia Sanctions Tightening
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Objects to "Illegal Unilateral Sanctions"
As the United States strengthens sanctions against Russia ahead of the one-year anniversary of the Ukraine war, including Chinese companies in the sanctions list, the Chinese government has announced plans for "counter-sanctions."
Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a regular briefing on the 27th, "The actions of the United States are typical illegal unilateral sanctions without any basis in international law or authorization from the Security Council, and represent 'extraterritorial jurisdiction.'"
He added, "We express strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition," and said that China has lodged a diplomatic protest, referred to as a "stern negotiation," with the U.S. side.
Spokesperson Mao said, "China will continue to take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies," and indicated a counter-response by stating, "We will resolutely retaliate against the wrongful actions of the United States in sanctioning Chinese companies."
Additionally, Mao reiterated that the U.S. claims regarding China's review of arms supplies to Russia are "false information," while emphasizing that the United States has no authority to interfere in this matter.
Regarding Jake Sullivan, U.S. National Security Advisor, who stated, "If China decides to provide arms support to Russia, it will pay a definite price," Mao responded, "The United States has no right to dictate the China-Russia relationship," and added, "We will never accept U.S. threats and pressure."
