Shin Ji-eun is on a winning march.
On the 23rd, Shin Ji-eun posted a 6-under-par 66 in the first round of the Honda LPGA Thailand (total prize money $1.7 million), held at the Siam Country Club Pattaya Old Course (par 72, 6,576 yards) in Chonburi, Thailand, placing her in a tie for 6th. Five players, including Jennifer Kupcho (USA), Hataoka Nasa (Japan), and Lin Xiyu (China), are battling it out at the top with a shared lead of 7-under-par 65. A total of 72 players compete over 72 holes of stroke play to determine the winner. There is no cut-off.
Shin Ji-eun fired a 6-under-par on the first day of the Honda LPGA Thailand, positioning herself in a tie for 6th place, just one stroke behind the leader.
View original imageShin Ji-eun swept up six birdies without a single bogey. She started off on a high note with a birdie on the 10th hole (par 5), followed by 'stepping stone birdies' on the 14th and 16th holes. She then finished the round strongly with back-to-back birdies on the 18th and 1st holes, and another birdie on the 7th hole (par 5). She missed the fairway three times and the green four times. Her total putts were 26. She is just one stroke behind the joint leaders, aiming for her second career win after her first victory at the 2016 Texas Shootout in America, nearly six years and ten months ago.
Kim Hyo-joo and 'LPGA Rookie of the Year' Atthaya Thitikul (Thailand) started fresh, tied for 9th place at 5-under-par 67. Lydia Ko (New Zealand), world number one and last week's Ladies European Tour (LET) Aramco Saudi Ladies International champion, is tied for 17th at 4-under-par 68. World number two Nelly Korda (USA) and world number five Ko Jin-young also joined this group.

Last month's 'Champion of Champions' Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions winner Brooke Henderson (Canada), along with Choi Hye-jin, Kim Se-young, and Ji Eun-hee, are tied for 28th at 3-under-par 69. Yang Hee-young and Jeon In-ji, who have won this tournament three times out of their four career wins, are tied for 48th at 1-under-par 71. World number three Minjee Lee (Australia) is tied for 57th at even par 72.
