Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, "We Take the Lead in South Coast Tourism Development Plan"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] “Gyeongnam Province should proactively create plans for South Coast tourism development and ensure they are reflected in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ research projects.”
Gyeongnam Governor Park Wan-su said this at the department and bureau heads meeting held on the 21st.
Governor Park referred to the previous day’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries-South Coast Policy Council, emphasizing, “Efforts such as vision declarations and forum hosting are necessary to turn the valuable asset of the South Coast into a growth engine for Gyeongnam.”
He also said, “When the government establishes basic management plans for national parks such as Hallyeohaesang and Jirisan, the voices of the local areas and residents should be actively reflected by the province.”
Governor Park also urged efforts to foster an atmosphere related to attracting a medical school, law school, and establishing a university of science and technology.
He said, “There is a strong public desire for expanding medical schools in the province as well as establishing law schools and science and technology universities. We must form a pan-provincial promotion committee and continuously request the government and political circles to achieve results.”

Regarding the Gyeongnam FC innovation plan announced last month, he said, “Even if the province continues to support the club as it does now, there are talks about finding companies that can provide more sponsorship and ways to entrust the club,” and reiterated, “Since this is a promise to the residents, actively implement it.”
Regarding the audit results from the Audit Committee on investment and foundation institutions and provincial universities, he firmly stated, “We must not handle violations of laws or improper practices in subordinate institutions with leniency.”
He also ordered strict punishment for issues raised in provincial universities concerning recruitment and academic management, as well as the preparation of innovation plans.
He noted that Gyeongnam’s export-import trends, which have recorded a surplus for four consecutive months, are due to shipbuilding and defense industries, and instructed to fully support exports so that the surplus can continue.
He also requested periodic inspections on safety management, including safety checks of various facilities, measures to prevent accidents during festivals, and prompt execution.
Regarding the governor’s visits to cities and counties, he emphasized the need to improve beyond simple budget support requests to suit the times.
“The governor’s visits to cities and counties should be occasions to sincerely listen to residents’ opinions and have constructive discussions for regional development,” he said.
