Gyeonggi-do Supports 'CCTV Installation Costs' for 365 Clinics and Hospitals
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will support the cost of installing 'Operating Room CCTV' in 365 hospitals and clinics within the province.
On the 21st, Gyeonggi Province announced that it plans to include a budget of 304.4 million KRW for the 'Operating Room CCTV Installation Support Project' in the first supplementary budget this year.
This installation support follows the amendment to the 'Medical Service Act,' which mandates the installation of operating room CCTV in medical institutions performing surgery on unconscious patients starting from September 25.
According to the Medical Service Act, the hospitals and clinics eligible for installation cost support in the province include 192 hospitals, 3 dental hospitals, 169 clinics, and 1 dental clinic, totaling 365 institutions.
Although this project is not subject to provincial government expense support under the 'Regulations on Standards for Local Government Expense Burden,' Gyeonggi Province, as the first in the nation to implement this, decided to cover 50% of the local government expenses with provincial funds to facilitate smooth installation.
The province explained that since the Ministry of Health and Welfare's support plan and project budget confirmation were notified on December 27 last year, it was reflected in the first supplementary budget proposal.
In particular, since Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center has years of experience installing and operating operating room CCTV, it plans to support video management, personal information protection measures, and communication systems between medical staff and patients.
Um Won-ja, Director of the Health and Medical Department of the province, stated, "The installation of operating room CCTV in Gyeonggi Province has not only protected patients but also secured transparency in the surgical process, increasing trust in medical personnel. We will actively support hospitals and clinics in the province ahead of the mandatory installation."

Meanwhile, in 2018, to prevent human rights violations such as verbal abuse and assault occurring in operating rooms and medical accidents, the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center Anseong Hospital began a pilot project to install and operate operating room CCTV. Subsequently, in 2019, the installation was expanded to all six hospitals of the Gyeonggi Provincial Medical Center and in 2020 to two private medical institutions. The province also submitted the 'Medical Service Act Amendment' including the mandatory installation of operating room CCTV to the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The National Assembly passed the 'Medical Service Act Amendment' on August 31, 2021.
