Naju-si Urgently Inspects Water Facilities... Accelerating Clear Water Supply
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Jeonnam Naju City conducted an emergency inspection of the overall facilities at six local pumping stations in cooperation with Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) Naju Water Branch from the 13th to the 14th.
According to the city on the 17th, this inspection was carried out as a preemptive measure to prevent similar accidents following the recent large-scale water outage and massive water leakage incident caused by malfunctioning of an old valve at the Deoknam Water Purification Plant in Gwangju.

The city and K-water inspected the valves and control devices at six pumping stations?Dasi, Songwol, Nampyeong, Noan, Geumcheon·Sanpo, and Gongsan?over two days and confirmed that there were no abnormalities.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae also visited the Songwol pumping station on the 16th to conduct a focused inspection of the operation status of all pumping stations in the jurisdiction with K-water.
In particular, he listened to the main causes, damage status, and recovery process related to the Gwangju Deoknam Water Purification Plant accident, ordering pre-inspection and replacement of old valves and prompt response in case of similar incidents.
The Songwol pumping station is the largest facility, accounting for about 50% of the daily water supply capacity in the Naju area, supplying approximately 20,000 tons of water daily to 10,497 households residing in the Dong area and Wanggok·Seji-myeon.
A K-water official stated, “We proactively replaced the valve electric actuator and gearbox last September due to an error in the main inlet valve opening rate at the Songwol pumping station,” and personally showed the equipment to Mayor Yoon.
The city and K-water have been striving to ensure stable water supply and improve water management rationalization through efficient operation and management of local waterworks since signing the 'Local Waterworks Operation Efficiency Project' agreement in 2008.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “Water is the most essential public resource closely related to citizens’ daily lives and health, so please be thorough in conducting preemptive and precise inspections of all facilities to ensure clear water is supplied stably throughout the year.”
He added, “I hope you will also do your best in mock drills and operation tests to enable swift response even in unexpected accidents.”
