Democratic Party Launches Massive 'Firepower Battle' Against Lee Jae-myung's Arrest Warrant... "Democracy Trampled by Prosecutor Dictatorship"
Regional Committee Chairpersons Joint Meeting, Large-Scale Protest Rallies Held in Succession
Lee Jae-myung Criticizes "Judicial Hunt" and "Unprecedented Outrage in Constitutional History"
[Asia Economy reporters Naju-seok and Park Jun-i] Faced with the unprecedented situation of a pre-arrest warrant request against the party leader, the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) protested the unfairness of the detention warrant request and launched an offensive using the special prosecutor investigation into First Lady Kim Geon-hee as a leverage. The DPK concentrated its efforts to hold a large-scale rally in the National Assembly condemning the prosecutor dictatorship, reminiscent of a presidential election kickoff event.
On the 17th, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the DPK, said at an emergency joint meeting of the DPK’s nationwide regional committee chairpersons and lawmakers at the National Assembly, "We were given authority to improve the country’s finances, pioneer the nation’s future, and take care of people’s livelihoods, but with that authority, they are eliminating political opponents, seizing power, and spending their lives maintaining power," adding, "Eventually, they are fabricating falsehoods to destroy the opposition party, committing an unprecedented outrage in the history of the Republic of Korea’s constitutional government."
Lee said, "No matter how much I think about it, it is absurd that criminals reported to and got approval from the mayor to commit crimes. They are fabricating cases based on testimonies from people in desperate situations caught by the prosecution," and added, "The facts can be clarified anytime, but they are targeting the opposition party leader and writing in the arrest warrant that he must be detained. What kind of absurd country is this?" He emphasized, "We are not fighting to protect Lee Jae-myung, but to uphold democracy," and stated, "I am confident that the DPK’s efforts will correct the regressing democracy and create an opportunity to properly establish our national order and constitutional order."

Earlier at the DPK Supreme Council meeting, Lee also said, "Democracy and the rule of law have been brutally trampled by the blade of the Yoon Seok-yeol prosecutor dictatorship regime," and added, "The atrocities of the Yoon Seok-yeol regime are judicial hunts disguised as the rule of law and will be a historical stain."
The DPK also paid attention to remarks from a presidential office official suggesting additional warrant requests against Lee might follow, pointing to possible intervention by President Yoon. Park Hong-geun, the DPK floor leader, said, "Since last year, presidential office officials have issued new guidelines for tail-chasing warrants, saying that the case against Lee Jae-myung will not end with just one warrant," adding, "This is evidence that the executive branch, which should remain neutral, is actively interfering in the prosecution’s investigation." After the joint meeting, Lee also confronted reporters, saying, "The presidential office seems to be the spokesperson office of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office."
The offensive for a special prosecutor investigation into First Lady Kim also continued. Floor leader Park said, "(The arrest warrant request against Lee) is a diversion from the special prosecutor investigation into stock manipulation by First Lady Kim," and added, "As the court’s ruling has made the necessity of investigating First Lady Kim clearer, the public’s will for a special prosecutor to correct the unfair investigation cannot be broken," promising, "We will focus on the people’s special prosecutor without hesitation."
