Suwon City Anticipates Hosting ITS Asia-Pacific Congress in Korea for the First Time in 23 Years... Selected as Candidate City for 2025
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has been selected as a candidate city to host the 2025 Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Asia-Pacific Conference. Intelligent Transportation Systems apply advanced information and communication technologies to transportation means and facilities to enhance safety and convenience. Bus information systems and traffic information systems are representative examples of ITS.
On the 17th, Suwon City announced that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport held the "2025 ITS Asia-Pacific Conference Host Candidate City Selection Evaluation Committee" on the 15th and selected Suwon as a candidate city.
In this evaluation, Suwon City received high scores for ▲ active support from private companies ▲ advanced ITS services such as autonomous driving ▲ convenient urban accessibility ▲ strong determination of local governments to host the event.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will form a hosting preparation team with Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province, and the Korea Intelligent Transportation Systems Association to submit a letter of intent to host to the ITS Asia-Pacific Secretariat by the end of next month, and will conduct hosting promotion activities targeting Asia-Pacific countries with voting rights until the selection evaluation day on April 25.
The ITS Asia-Pacific Conference is an international meeting where countries in the Asia-Pacific region exchange ITS-related public-private technologies and share market trends. It began in 1996 in Japan. The conference consists of high-level meetings, academic conferences, technology demonstrations, exhibitions, and business consultations.
Korea hosted the 5th ITS Asia-Pacific Conference in Seoul in 2002. If Suwon City succeeds in hosting the 2025 ITS Asia-Pacific Conference, it will be held in Korea for the first time in 23 years.
The 2025 ITS Asia-Pacific Conference will be held from May 12 to 14. More than 2,500 participants from over 20 countries will attend, and 50 organizations and companies will operate about 100 booths.
