UN Pushes Resolution Urging Peace in Ukraine
Resolution Vote Expected to Pass One Year Before War
Includes Withdrawal of Troops and Cessation of Hostilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Major foreign media reported on the 15th (local time) that the United Nations (UN) General Assembly is pushing for a resolution calling for peace to mark one year since the Ukraine war.
The UN plans to hold a vote on the resolution at an emergency special session at the UN Headquarters in New York on the 23rd, one day before the one-year anniversary of the Ukraine war.
The resolution demands that Russia withdraw its troops from Ukraine and cease hostile actions against Ukraine.
It also expresses concern over the significant increase in civilian casualties in Ukraine and will demand that Russia immediately stop attacks on civilian facilities such as infrastructure, residential buildings, schools, and hospitals.
The resolution again includes the UN General Assembly's previous demand that Russia immediately, completely, and unconditionally withdraw all troops beyond the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine.

The adoption of the resolution is almost certain, and the question is how many votes in favor it will receive. The first resolution, adopted in early March last year just eight days after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, passed with 141 votes in favor, 5 against, and 35 abstentions.
