‘Coffee City Busan, Spreading the Aroma of Coffee’ … Busan Chamber of Commerce Produces Coffee Goods for Expo Promotion
Together with 3 World Barista Champions
Hoping for the 2030 Busan World Expo Bid
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry has collaborated with three World Barista Champions from the region to produce promotional coffee goods expressing hopes for the successful bid of the 2030 Busan World Expo.
This merchandise was created inspired by the brand image of Busan as a coffee city.
On the 16th, the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a tasting event for the 2030 Busan World Expo Coffee Edition under the theme "Coffee City Busan, United by Coffee" at the Momos Coffee roasting factory in Yeongdo, together with Jeon Ju-yeon, CEO of Momos Coffee, barista Chu Kyung-ha, and Moon Heon-gwan, CEO of Muns Coffee, all natives of the region.
This edition, produced in drip bag form for easy brewing, features coffee beans specially recommended by World Barista Champions from among beans produced by member countries of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). It is the first collaborative product involving three World Barista Champions from Busan.
The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry chose coffee as the Expo merchandise because they recognized the power of coffee as a content that transcends borders and has become a universal culture and language.
Additionally, Busan, uniquely in Korea, has enacted ordinances for the development of the coffee industry, leading related industries and culture, which was strategically judged to be advantageous for promoting the Expo bid.
For Busan to succeed in hosting the Expo, support is needed from the coffee belts of Central and South America and Africa, which together account for nearly half of the 171 member countries of the BIE.
Jeon Ju-yeon, CEO of Momos Coffee, said, "My dream is to introduce Busan to the world through coffee, and if the Expo is held in Busan, I believe I can take a step closer to that dream, so I happily participated in producing these goods."
Barista Chu Kyung-ha said, "I am glad to be able to participate in the bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo through the coffee I love."
Moon Heon-gwan, CEO of Muns Coffee, also said, "The Cup Tasters competition and the Expo bid decision are similar in that both require finding a special charm. I hope that through this merchandise production, Busan’s charm will spread worldwide carried by the aroma of coffee."
The newly produced ‘2030 Busan World Expo Edition’ will be provided as souvenirs not only at major events hosted by the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry but also to visiting dignitaries. The regional economic community plans to actively encourage major companies to use this coffee edition as their own commemorative gift.
Jang In-hwa, chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, "Since the local enthusiasm for the bid is an important evaluation factor during the on-site inspection by the Bureau International des Expositions, the coffee goods produced this time are hoped to serve as a useful means to promote the Expo."
