Boseong-gun's Mobile Walking Community 'WalkOn Challenge' Gains Popularity

Current Number of Subscribers Surpasses 3,000

[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Cheon-seok] Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the non-face-to-face mobile walking app ‘WalkON,’ which has been operated since November 2020, is receiving great response from the residents, and the number of participants continues to increase.

The number of participants in Boseong-gun WalkON, which started with 560 people in 2020, consists of various age groups from teenagers to those over 60 years old, and thanks to the love of the residents, the current number of subscribers has surpassed 3,000.

‘WalkON’ is open to all Boseong residents and can be used through a smartphone app. If participants achieve the challenge (achieving the target number of steps), which is held once or twice a month, they can receive various promotional items such as Boseong Love Gift Certificates as success rewards.

Participants can check their daily exercise amount through time-based exercise records every day, manage their personal schedules, and receive regular blood pressure, diabetes, and body fat measurements (InBody tests) when receiving items.

With the activation of WalkON, the walking-friendly paths in Boseong-gun (15 courses) are also receiving great love.

A resident A who participated in mobile walking said, “I am looking forward to what kind of prize I will receive after achieving this goal, so I try harder to walk,” and added, “By checking the goal every day for 10 days and keeping up with walking exercise, it seems to help prevent dementia.”

An official from Boseong-gun said, “We will continue to create an atmosphere for residents to practice walking in their daily lives to reduce health risks,” and added, “We plan to expand operation tailored to our county’s characteristics by linking WalkON with obesity child management, dementia prevention walking, and more.”
