Yeongam-gun, Strong Crackdown on Illegal Garbage Dumping Through Intensive Surveillance
Designation of 5 Zones for Habitual Illegal Garbage Dumping
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do has been conducting intensive crackdowns on habitual illegal garbage dumping areas since last month.
According to the county on the 16th, it is suffering from a rapid increase in population due to the boom in the shipbuilding industry, as well as a surge in delivery food and parcel volumes.

In particular, the Daebul residential complex in Samho-eup is showing a rapid spread of illegal dumping cases, such as disposing of waste in regular bags instead of volume-based waste bags.
Accordingly, the county has designated five zones for habitual illegal garbage dumping and formed five inspection teams of four members each to conduct intensive crackdowns mainly during early morning and nighttime hours. Violators of related regulations are fined up to 1 million KRW.
Recently, reflecting the local conditions where the number of foreign workers is rapidly increasing around the industrial complex, banners have been produced in Chinese, Vietnamese, and Uzbek languages and installed in habitual illegal garbage dumping areas to actively encourage voluntary participation from residents.
In the future, related promotional materials produced in foreign languages will be distributed at foreign resident support centers and restaurants and supermarkets frequently visited by foreigners.
The county plans to continue cracking down on habitual illegal garbage dumping areas and actively utilize the Yeongam-gun foreign resident government monitoring team to eradicate illegal garbage dumping.
