[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Mozarteum Orchestra, representing the Salzburg Festival, one of the world's greatest music festivals, is coming to Korea.
The Mozarteum Orchestra will meet Korean audiences on the 9th of next month at Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul, on the 10th at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall, and on the 11th at the Suwon Gyeonggi Arts Center Grand Theater. Adam Fischer (74), a Hungarian conductor recognized as a specialist in Haydn and Mozart, will lead the orchestra. Violinist Ray Chen (34) will join as a soloist.
Founded in Mozart’s hometown of Salzburg, the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra represents the world-renowned Salzburg Festival. The orchestra traces its origins to the Cathedral Music Association and the Mozarteum, established in 1841 to support Mozart’s widow Constanze and their two sons after his death. It also serves as the resident orchestra of the Salzburg Opera House.
Known for its distinctive sound and style, the orchestra has received acclaim from audiences and critics alike for its fresh and vivid performances at every concert. It has gained global recognition for its performances of Mozart’s works within the Viennese classical music repertoire, and in acknowledgment of its achievements, it was awarded the Gold Mozart Medal, the first ensemble to receive it after the Vienna Philharmonic.
Based on historical authenticity, the orchestra gave the opening performance at the first Mozart Week in 1956, commemorating the 200th anniversary of Mozart’s birth, and has participated in the Salzburg Festival for over 100 years, building a faithful interpretation and history of Mozart’s repertoire.
The concert program consists exclusively of Mozart’s compositions, featuring Symphony No. 40, 41, 38, and 35, as well as Violin Concertos No. 3 and 5. Audiences will have the opportunity to experience some of Mozart’s most famous works performed at a high level.
Conductor Fischer, who founded the Austria-Hungary Haydn Philharmonic, organized the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt, and has performed on prestigious stages including the Salzburg Festival, plans to present Mozart’s operatic music based on his extensive experience.
