Nonocare and Public Facility Volunteering... Daegu City Creates Jobs for 30,000 Seniors
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-seon] Daegu City will create jobs for 29,929 elderly people this year with a budget of 118 billion KRW.
On the 15th, Daegu City announced, "This year's budget for senior jobs and social activity support is 118 billion KRW, an increase of 5 billion KRW from last year. According to the budget, the number of jobs is estimated at 23,887 for public interest type, 4,232 for social service type, 1,211 for market type, and 599 for employment placement type, totaling 29,929."
In December last year, applications were accepted through community centers and executing agencies, with a total of 39,788 applicants and 29,929 selected. The selected individuals will participate in jobs through a total of 38 executing agencies, including senior clubs and welfare centers across 8 districts and counties.
The public interest type jobs, involving 23,887 participants, are activities aimed at enhancing self-satisfaction and achievement as well as promoting public welfare in the local community. These jobs include fields such as elderly care for the elderly, support for vulnerable groups, volunteering at public facilities, and passing on experience in cycling. Participants must be basic pension recipients aged 65 or older.
The social service type jobs, employing 4,232 people, utilize the experience and activity capabilities of the elderly to provide services in areas requiring social assistance, such as educational facility learning assistance, public administration support, and safety management support. Social service type jobs are also open to basic pension recipients aged 65 or older.
A Daegu City official said, "Public interest type and social service type jobs involve working about 3 hours a day and receiving a monthly wage of 300,000 to 400,000 KRW."
In addition, market type jobs supplement part of the participants' wages and operate year-round through additional business profits in areas such as food manufacturing and sales, production and sales of industrial products, and store management. Employment placement type jobs connect individuals who have completed certain training or have related work skills to demand sites based on the needs of those sites, providing a certain wage during the working period. Eligibility for participation is 60 years or older.
Daegu City is planning to expand new senior jobs in various fields such as safety, digital, education, and public medical welfare services to create senior jobs that fulfill social responsibility rather than simple labor jobs, in line with the accelerating aging situation and the new senior era as the baby boom generation becomes elderly.
Looking at successful cases, there is the "Electric Vehicle Charging Station Manager (Public Interest Type)" project currently being carried out in six districts and counties. The job involves guiding the use of electric vehicle charging stations, managing facilities, and encouraging the movement of fully charged vehicles. Due to positive responses from users, the number of participants has expanded from 37 in the first year to 280 currently.
Also, in response to the growing need for environmental preservation, the Senior Club in Buk-gu, Daegu City, is leading efforts to reduce household waste and protect the environment by collecting ice packs, washing and disinfecting them, and distributing them free of charge to local merchants through the "Ice Pack Recycling Project." This project was also selected as a pilot project model in the evaluation by the Korea Senior Human Resources Development Institute.
