Neowiz Records 294.6 Billion KRW in Sales Last Year... Plans to Release 9 New Titles This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Neowiz is launching a global offensive this year by releasing a total of nine new titles.
Neowiz announced on the 14th that it recorded sales of 294.6 billion KRW and operating profit of 22.6 billion KRW last year. These figures represent increases of 13% and 6%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Fourth-quarter sales rose 5% year-on-year to 72.8 billion KRW, while operating profit fell 93% year-on-year to 300 million KRW.
Looking at annual sales by segment, the PC and console game segment showed similar levels with sales of 126.4 billion KRW, a 1% increase from the previous year. The mobile game segment recorded 143.3 billion KRW, up 9% year-on-year. Other sales grew 534% to 24.8 billion KRW.
‘Cat and Soup,’ which surpassed 35 million cumulative global downloads last year, became the first Korean game to be featured on Netflix. In the third quarter, it achieved its highest quarterly performance, driving mobile game sales. Web board games showed stable sales, benefiting from regulatory easing. ‘Skull,’ the first Korean indie game to reach 1 million cumulative sales within a year of release, the online first-person shooter ‘AVA,’ and the rhythm game ‘DJMax Respect V’ contributed to sales by launching on Steam, Xbox, and Game Pass respectively. Other sales reflect the full-year contribution of advertising revenue from subsidiary T&K Factory.
Neowiz plans to release a total of nine new titles this year and pursue global market expansion by strengthening its intellectual property (IP).
The self-developed console title ‘P-ui Geojit’ (P’s Lie) will be released globally simultaneously this summer. The first development phase of all chapters has been completed, and final work is underway to deliver the highest quality. A Focus Group Test (FGT) for global users will be conducted in the first half of the year, and various activities such as releasing new videos and participating in game shows will continue to increase user engagement before the official launch. Preparations for greater growth, including development of the sequel to ‘P-ui Geojit,’ will proceed sequentially.
Using the ‘Cat and Soup’ IP, new titles in various genres such as puzzle, social network games (SNG), and simulation with emotional art will offer users fresh and unique experiences.
The ‘Brown Dust’ IP will also be expanded. ‘Brown Dust 2,’ the successor to the original ‘Brown Dust,’ will be unveiled in the first half of this year, aiming to build a global fandom in the subculture game market. Additionally, a ‘major new title based on a famous Japanese IP’ is also in preparation.
