"Russian Invasion War"... Chinese Chatbot Suspended After Three Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] 'ChatYuan,' China's first artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that described the Ukraine war as "Russia's invasion war," has suspended its service three days after its launch due to violations of related regulations.
According to Taiwan News on the 12th (local time), ChatYuan, after launching its service on the 3rd, responded regarding the Ukraine war by stating, "It is Russia's invasion war. Since the military and political powers of both sides are not at the same level, it is considered an invasion war." ChatYuan is a conversational chatbot developed by the Chinese AI company Yuanwei, similar to OpenAI's 'ChatGPT.'
This response about the Ukraine war directly contradicts the Chinese government's stance, which has denied that the conflict is an invasion and has supported Russia. According to foreign media reports such as The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), China has supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine by supplying military equipment.
Regarding China's economic issues, ChatYuan pointed out "lack of investment, housing bubble, environmental pollution, and decreased corporate operational efficiency," answering in a way that leaves little room for optimism. On the other hand, about Chinese President Xi Jinping's leadership, it responded, "President Xi is a great leader and reformer," and "He is open-minded and highly values innovation."
Despite the high evaluation of President Xi reflecting the Chinese Communist Party's perspective, ChatYuan's service was suspended on the App Store. The reason given was "violation of related regulations." Earlier, Yuanwei stated that ChatYuan could provide professional answers in various fields such as law and health and could also support writing tasks.
