‘LIV Member’ DeChambeau and Kepka "US Open Participation Confirmed"
USGA June Tournament Participation Eligibility Announcement
Players who joined LIV Golf will participate in the US Open.
The United States Golf Association (USGA) announced the qualification criteria for this year's US Open on the 9th (local time), which is slightly different from last year. There was no exclusion of players who joined LIV Golf, sponsored by Saudi Arabian capital.
Seven LIV Golf players, including Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson (all from the United States), Martin Kaymer (Germany), 2021 PGA Championship winner Phil Mickelson (United States), last year's Open Champion Cameron Smith (Australia), and last year's PGA Tour Championship participant Joaquin Niemann (Chile), will be able to compete in this year's US Open.
The USGA added four new qualification categories for the tournament. These include the Latin America Amateur Championship winner, the NCAA individual champion, the 2022 PGA Korn Ferry (second-tier) Tour points leader, and the top 5 players in the PGA Tour FedEx Cup rankings as of May 22.
The number of amateur player spots increased by two. Additionally, consideration was given to collegiate players. Furthermore, the cooperation with the PGA Tour was strengthened. Matteo Oliveira (Argentina), who won the Latin America Amateur Championship last year, and Korean-American Justin Suh, the Korn Ferry Tour money leader last year, became the first beneficiaries.
