Moon Kyung-jun (photo) had a refreshing start.
On the 9th (local time), Moon Kyung-jun shot a 3-under-par 69 in the first round of the Asian Tour International Series Oman (total prize money $2 million) held at Al Mouj Golf Course in Muscat, Oman (par 72, 7,438 yards), placing him tied for 5th. Korean-Canadian Shin Yong-gu leads with 6-under-par 66, while Sergio Garcia (Spain) of LIV Golf and others are tied for 2nd at 5-under-par 67, engaging in a chase.
Moon Kyung-jun recorded five birdies and two bogeys. In the front nine, he smoothly progressed with consecutive birdies on holes 11 and 12 and another birdie on hole 14 (par 4), but was abruptly halted by consecutive bogeys on holes 15 and 16. However, he climbed up the leaderboard by securing two birdies on holes 2 (par 4) and 7 (par 5) in the back nine. He is three strokes behind the leader, a position from which a comeback is definitely possible.
Moon Kyung-jun is a veteran who debuted on the Korean Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Korean Tour in 2007. He earned his first career victory at the 2015 GS Caltex Maekyung Open and secured his second win at the 2021 KB Financial Live Championship. Although he did not win in 2019, he delivered consistent performances, earning the Genesis Award, lowest scoring average award, Best Player Trophy, and the Sports Toto Happy Together Award.
