On the 7th, Daejeon City and Chungnam Province announced that they will implement high-concentration fine dust emergency reduction measures from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the same day.
The emergency reduction measures are implemented due to the accumulation of fine dust imported from abroad and fine dust generated domestically, which has increased to high concentrations due to atmospheric stagnation.
The Interest level alert is issued when the following conditions are met: ▲ the average concentration from midnight to 4 p.m. on the day exceeds 50㎍/㎥ and is expected to exceed 50㎍/㎥ the next day ▲ a warning or alert is issued in the relevant city/province area from midnight to 4 p.m. on the day and the concentration is expected to exceed 50㎍/㎥ the next day ▲ the concentration is expected to exceed 75㎍/㎥ (very bad) the next day.
The emergency reduction measures taken at this time include ▲ enforcement of driving restrictions for grade 5 vehicles (with fines imposed) ▲ restrictions on the use of old equipment at construction sites, changes and adjustments to construction hours, covering to suppress dust, etc. ▲ strengthening road cleaning with dust suction vehicles.
For Chungnam, this is the third time this year that emergency reduction measures have been implemented. Previously, such measures were implemented on the 7th and 8th of last month in Chungnam.
Shin Yong-hyun, Director of the Environment and Greenery Bureau of Daejeon City, said, “We ask businesses and construction sites to actively participate in the emergency reduction measures,” and added, “We also hope citizens refrain from outdoor activities as much as possible and pay attention to personal health such as protecting their respiratory system when going out.”
