Lee Cheol, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, Urges Measures for Renewable Energy
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Lee Cheol, Chairman of the Economic Tourism and Culture Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Wando 1), urged the Jeonnam Province to establish countermeasures for renewable energy related to the solar energy industry.
According to the data submitted by Chairman Lee Cheol on the 3rd, by 2030, the proportion of nuclear power generation was set to be increased by 8.5 percentage points to 32.4%, while renewable energy was set to be decreased by 8.6 percentage points to 21.6%.
At the energy industry bureau’s work report the day before, Chairman Lee expressed concerns about the contraction of Jeonnam Province’s offshore wind and solar energy industries due to the current government’s pro-nuclear policy and demanded the preparation of a concrete implementation plan.
Chairman Lee pointed out, “The renewable energy industry is one of Jeonnam Province’s main industries, and if government support and investment in renewable energy decrease due to the current government’s pro-nuclear policy, there is a risk that Jeonnam’s offshore wind and solar energy industries will shrink.”
He continued, “We must ensure that plans to attract global companies, such as the RE100-dedicated industrial complex with renewable energy potential in Jeonnam and the creation of large-scale renewable energy power complexes, do not face setbacks,” adding, “To strengthen the expertise of the Energy Industry Bureau, the recruitment of specialized personnel should be increased.”
