Suwon City Promotes Youth US Internship Employment... Recruiting 30 Participants
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province is stepping up to support young people seeking employment in the United States.
On the 30th, Suwon City announced plans to take advantage of the severe labor shortage in the U.S. labor market by supporting Suwon youth to gain internship opportunities abroad.
Accordingly, the city is recruiting 30 young people aged 34 or younger with a high school diploma or higher to participate in the "2023 Suwon Specialized Youth Overseas Internship Support Project" until March 31.
The Youth Overseas Internship Support Project dispatches Suwon youth as interns to companies located in the United States. Selected youth will receive employment lectures including explanations of American corporate culture and customized consulting, and will be connected to suitable local companies, Korean-American companies, or large corporations' U.S. branches for internship employment.
Once employment is confirmed, the city supports the training process for intern visa approval and covers about 50% of the visa issuance cost, approximately 2.5 million KRW. Additionally, employment linkage agencies operating locally will assist the youth in adapting to the local environment.
To facilitate this project, the city signed an exchange cooperation agreement with the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Orange County, USA, in October 2021 and has been working to secure employment places by discovering hiring companies.
Youth eligible for the U.S.-based overseas internship must be residents registered in Suwon City with a high school diploma or higher, or university students (enrolled, on leave, or graduates) located in Suwon, aged 34 or younger.
The city will select final participants through a first round of document screening and a second round of interviews. Preference is given to those who can speak English conversationally. Results will be notified individually.
