Democratic Party: "Lee Jae-myung's 2nd Summons, Position Not Yet Finalized... Prosecution's Political Intent Is Clear"
"When a summons is notified, the party leader will decide"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The Democratic Party of Korea stated that their position is "not yet finalized" regarding the prosecution's additional summons of Representative Lee Jae-myung.
On the 29th, Park Seong-jun, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, told reporters, "I understand that toward the end of the investigation, the prosecutor spoke to the defense attorney in a high-handed manner, asking them to do something," and added, "If the prosecution summons again, the leadership or the party representative will decide, and we will inform you of our position again."
Regarding future responses, he said, "This series of events was anticipated," and "If the prosecution continues with a series of summons, we have no choice but to respond each time. When a summons notice arrives, the party representative will decide, and the leadership will go through a consultation process."
In the legal community, there are expectations that the prosecution will request a second appearance and, if not complied with, will seek an arrest warrant.
Spokesperson Park said, "It seems clear that the prosecution's intention is politically motivated to embarrass the party representative," and added, "They could conduct the investigation all at once, but the fact that they are continuing to investigate piece by piece appears to be intentional."
