Birth of the 'Disaster Prevention Park' Safely Protecting Sangdong Village in Uiryeong-gun
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] A disaster prevention park has been established in Sangdong Village, Uiryeong-eup, Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam, to safely protect residents' lives and property from forest fire prevention and various crimes.
Sangdong Village was selected as an Urban Regeneration New Deal project area in February last year, and the Our Neighborhood Revitalization project is currently underway. The newly created disaster prevention park was installed to make the village environment, which has many crime-vulnerable areas such as aging houses, narrow alleys, vacant lots and gardens without CCTV, safer.

If a fire breaks out, the narrow roads make it impossible for fire trucks to enter, and the time required to extinguish the fire with hoses is delayed. The disaster prevention park is expected to partially solve these problems.
The disaster prevention park serves as a park equipped with shade shelters and landscaping facilities for residents' rest and leisure activities during normal times, and is used as a disaster prevention park with fire extinguishing equipment in emergencies.
In December last year, the county conducted operation training for the village guardians - voluntary fire brigade at the disaster prevention park for 10 residents of the Sangdong Cooperative Village and completed the graduation ceremony.
Meanwhile, the Our Neighborhood Revitalization project in the Sangdong district, selected for the Urban Regeneration New Deal project, is being developed over an area of 49,230㎡ in Sangdong Village, Jungdong-ri, Uiryeong-eup. The project budget is 6.25 billion KRW and is scheduled to be completed by 2024.
