Morikawa and Scott revealed in an interview with the American magazine Sports Illustrated (SI) on the 25th (Korean time) that they will join the screen golf league TGL, which is set to launch in January next year.
TGL is a new golf league created by TMRW Sports, a venture company jointly established by Woods and McIlroy in August last year. Six teams, each consisting of three PGA Tour players, will compete in screen golf. Fifteen tournaments will be held every Monday. The matches will be played over two hours on an 18-hole virtual course.
The league is structured to hold competitions on Mondays when no PGA Tour events take place, with large prize money to be shared among players. By incorporating advanced IT technology, it is expected to become a new revenue-generating golf league. Woods and McIlroy are leading efforts to protect the PGA Tour against LIV Golf. With the addition of Morikawa and Scott, TGL has secured four major championship winners, including Justin Thomas (USA) and Jon Rahm (Spain).
