Biden Mourns LA Shooting Victims... "Ordered Full Support Deployment"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] U.S. President Joe Biden expressed condolences on the 22nd (local time) for the mass shooting incident that occurred in the small city of Monterey Park in Los Angeles (LA) County.
In a statement released on the White House website that day, President Biden said, "Jill and I are thinking about those who were killed or injured in the deadly shooting that took place last night in Monterey Park," adding, "We do not yet fully understand the motive behind this senseless attack, but we know that many families are grieving tonight or praying for their loved ones to recover from their injuries."
He continued, "As we continue to seek answers about this attack, we recognize the profound shock this has caused to the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities," and stated, "Monterey Park is one of the largest hubs for these communities in the United States, and many were celebrating Lunar New Year with their loved ones and friends this week."
President Biden also said, "Early this morning, I directed the Homeland Security Advisor to mobilize the full support of the federal government to assist local and state authorities responding to and investigating this shooting," and added, "While awaiting more significant information from law enforcement, I want to assure the Monterey Park community and surrounding areas that we will support you in every way we can."

At around 10:20 p.m. the previous day, an Asian male suspect opened indiscriminate fire at 'Star Dance,' a dance studio located in Monterey Park Dance, resulting in the deaths of 10 people at the scene, including five men and five women. There were 10 injured, some in critical condition.
